The Summer season is about to commence. Our Club has been very busy of late. On July 4th we plan to be serving Hot Dogs and Hamburgers at the Annual Barnstable Independence Day Parade. Our booth is located on the baseball field behind the Unitarian Church. In prior years, Bill Finkel and Jim Salts have cooked and assembled our hamburgers on an incredible production line. The food is always great. The lines are always over fifty people deep throughout. Over 250 Hot Dogs get sold. It is always a great team effort. Another Summer tradition for our club is assisting the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod with the annual Pops By The Sea event in Hyannis. In past years we have sold peanuts, manned parking lots, provided help with seating, and provided financial support. This year will be no different, as we are planning to support the event to be held on Sunday, August 5 at 5pm on the Hyannis Village Green.
The 2006-2007 Club officers and board members have been elected. Our President as of October 1, 2006 is Brian Morrison, 2007-2008 President-Elect is also Brian Morrison, the 2006-2007 Vice President is Don Michaels, the Treasurer is Ray Dubois, and the Secretary is Eric Youngling. Our Board members are Phil Boudreau, Tim Luzietti, Betty Curtis, and Gene Burman.
In other news,
Our Club sponsored a dinner at Barstable High School in honor of the BHS Key Club's 50th Anniversary. The event was well attended by Key CLub members, their families, and our own Club members.
Our Club has made a nomination for the Connelly Award. The individual is highlighted in the following article from the Cape Cod Times. HYANNIS - Call it a case of being in the right place at the right time. A West Yarmouth man sprang into action after a 5-year old girl fell off the Ocean Street docks Saturday. The Times reports 39-year old Gary Richard was eating lunch in his car by Spanky's Clam Shack when he noticed a 5-year old girl who was throwing rocks in the water suddenly fell in. Without pause Richard jumped into the frigid water and pulled the girl to safety. A Hyannis ambulance took little Autumn Camphina to Cape Cod Hospital to be checked for hypothermia. Richards was also checked out by EMTs. Officials say without his quick thinking Autumn may well have drowned.
